What Does It Mean to Have Steadfast Peace?
Building trust is an ongoing process of surrendering our fears into the hands of a loving God.
As a wife, mother, employee and a human living in the world, my life can be filled with chaos, stress and uncertainty. Yet, even in the craziness of life, there’s a promise that speaks through the ages – a promise of perfect peace.
Isaiah 26:3 sums up this divine confidence so beautifully, offering comfort and hope to all who seek it: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.”
What does it mean to have “perfect peace?” As I reflect on my own journey, I have come to realize that my craving for peace runs deep within me, shaping the very fabric of my daily life.
For me, peace isn’t the absence of external distractions, nor the avoidance of conflict. Instead, it is something far more profound – an inner peace that remains steadfast in life’s most difficult storms.
I have been a little obsessed with the word STEADFAST. Isaiah says, “whose minds are STEADFAST because they trust in you.”
Steadfastness, in its nature, is more than a fleeting emotion or momentary commitment. It’s a steadfast trust – an assurance that remains unshaken even in the face of adversity.
Building trust is a journey…an ongoing process of surrendering our fears, doubts and anxieties into the hands of a loving God. Again, this does not mean turning a blind eye to the realities of life nor denying the existence of challenges.
As I continue to reflect on this verse, I’m reminded of the countless times in my own life when steadfast trust has been my saving grace. In moments of doubt and even despair, it has been that unshakable, steadfast commitment to trust the Lord in all things that has gotten me through.
Here are some tangible ways I work to have this verse true in my life.
Cultivate Steadfastness: Daily prayer. I start most days with praise and worship. Giving thanks for what I have and what He has spared me from. Surrendering control to the Lord for the things I am holding too tightly to. I do have days where I start to tell the Lord how things should go though.
Deepen Trust: Embrace each moment of my life as an opportunity to lean more into the Lord’s unfailing love for me. Surround yourself with other believers. Get involved in church. Volunteer. Be part of a Bible study/group. Be proactive in learning.
Choose Peace: I think we have all seen the shirts that say, “Choose Joy,” but what if we said daily, I am going to CHOOSE PEACE? That I will trust God is working all things together for my good, even when my circumstances may suggest otherwise.
I asked some friends to read Isaiah 26:3 and to tell me what songs have ministered to them in experiencing God’s STEADFAST PEACE.
