God Promises Protection
Rely on the Lord as your refuge and shelter, He will never fail.
"Who is afraid of the Incredible Hulk?"
I still remember my kindergarten teacher's words when I told her I couldn't go to the gym because I was terrified of being "Hulk smashed" by Lou Ferrigno on my way to class. At four years old, that fear was as real as it gets, even though 41 years later, I understand how irrational it was.
Adult fears, though, are just as real. Our world is filled with potential dangers that can stir up fear. A quick glance at the news or a scroll through social media can give us ample reasons to be afraid. Yet, none of this surprises God. He has promised us freedom from these fears and anxieties, not only in this life but, more importantly, by preparing a place for us in Heaven.
God has never failed. When He makes a promise, we can rest assured that He is faithful to fulfill every word He has spoken.
Fear was as relevant a topic for the Psalm writers as it is for us today. They understood the dangers and snares that await us all but, through the Holy Spirit, they conveyed a deep confidence in God's protection. I'm grateful that the Psalms resonate with the same thoughts and fears I have, yet they always circle back to the truth that God is faithful.
Psalm 91, likely written by King David, is a cornerstone of our theology. It reassures us that we serve a God who promises rest, refuge, safety, protection, shelter and freedom from fear and dread.
Psalm 91:9-10 proclaims: "If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home."
Throughout the years, I've learned to trust His Word. I have witnessed His faithfulness in my lifetime, time and again. When you learn to put your trust in Him, to rely on Him as your refuge and shelter, He will never fail.
Take a moment today to reflect. Where have you seen God's protection at work? Where have you witnessed His faithfulness? As you ponder, I believe more and more memories of God's faithfulness will come to mind.
Today, make the Lord your shelter. Make the Lord your refuge. He will never fail you!

“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” (Psalm 91:2)
