Mission 10 Update

September & October 2024

Message from Pastor Kristian

Commissioned Missions Emphasis Weekend has become one of our most-anticipated events of the year! On October 6, we celebrated all things missions at this event, which featured a beautiful flag parade representing the countries and missionaries we support, as well as a rollout of our 2025 trips.

In addition, we heard from guest speaker, Randy Hurst. Randy is a missionary evangelist who has preached in over 100 countries and serves as the Advancement Director for the Assemblies of God World Missions. He shared a powerful message of hope and inspiration. Missions truly is the heartbeat of God…and we have a shared urgency to keep sharing the Good News in new and creative ways!

Our Taste of the Nations event took place that evening at 6:00 PM, and several hundred individuals participated. Our missions staff and volunteer team enjoyed helping attendees experience the cultures of, and delicious food from, six of the main regions of the world we support.

Looking ahead to our 2025 trips, we have prayerfully considered opportunities where our resources meet critical needs. We will return to serve alongside many of our existing missions partners while expanding our efforts to GO to new and difficult places where we believe the Lord has called us.

You can see a list of our 2025 global and domestic trips on our Missions page, or pick up our brochure at the Missions booth in the Lobby. Trip dates, additional details and registration links are live on our Missions page for several of our earliest 2025 trips.

We are all called, and everyone who chooses to go is changed. Will you GO in 2025? There is an opportunity for you!

Local Missions

Making a Meaningful Difference

Our community has many opportunities to make a difference, yet we can’t tackle them all. Our ultimate goal is to have the greatest impact by pursuing where our resources meet critical needs. An important way we do this is through strategic partnerships with local, like-minded organizations.

Here is a brief look at what’s coming up:

Through our Mission 10 Work Days, we will strive to make an even greater and more consistent impact locally. Held on the fourth Saturday of March through October, we have designated these days to send a team of volunteers to serve on-site at a local missions partner.

We are passionate about supporting local students and their families in tangible ways as our partnership with the West Shore School District (WSSD) continues to grow.

Through our You Belong Invite Team, we will continue to visit local neighborhoods. We will offer a simple invitation to residents (who do not have a church home) to check out CLA.

We will once again participate in Jubilee Day in Mechanicsburg (June 19, 2025). This will allow us to connect with local families, provide them with a fun, meaningful experience, and introduce them to what CLA can offer them.

We will continue to share opportunities with our CLA family to provide food, other necessities and prayer for homeless individuals.

Our new prison ministry will continue to grow, and members of our Out of the Trenches veterans group will keep expanding their local influence to support local veterans. We will also prayerfully consider several new endeavors, including expanding the support we can offer to refugee families, as well as to adults with disabilities and mental health challenges.

Domestic Missions

Be All You Can Be

A team of 27 people recently traveled to help Ray of Hope Tabernacle in southern Virginia. This church has suffered multiple tragedies over the years, but God is bigger! With the exact combination of people and skills needed, the team was able to help complete the sanctuary renovations allowing Jesus to be shared.

This team included a number of veterans from the Out of the Trenches ministry at CLA. Although they serve fellow veterans each week near a local VA and have served together in different ways, they wanted to do even more. Pastor Lee Hyman shared:

“After a few bumps in the road, the veterans stepped into unexpected roles and worked together well to serve. We started with staining wood in the church and moved into serving in the kitchen. This provided opportunities to serve our team members and members of the community. The trip didn’t look exactly like we planned, but we trusted in the Lord and He helped everyone find their place on the team so that we could accomplish exactly what we were meant to do. As brothers, we grew together in such a way that even has us talking about coming back to serve again in the future.”

Global Missions

Witnessing Miracles

Missions trips are a life-changing experience and, this past summer, some of our CLA students (high school and college age) had the opportunity to serve Jesus through outreach at King’s Castle in El Salvador. They were blessed to be a part of 24 programs, which reached 2,448 people! They experienced 903 salvations; 1,247 problems were prayed for; and they experienced 1,121 healing miracles!

We hope you will be blessed by some of their experiences, which are shared below:

  • “Our CLA Youth gave of their time, talents and giftings to show the love of Jesus to children and families of El Salvador. In the face of several challenges, our youth never quit praying, trusting God, and loving on others. This trip showed me that God will supply everything necessary to serve His purpose. Whether it be energy, finances or ability, nothing will stand in the way if you have a willing heart.” – Mia Berfield (Youth Leader)

  • “I was praying during our farewell party, and I was running out of things to pray about. At one point, I looked down at my sweatshirt and on the arm, it said, ‘He will take your right hand.’ So, I decided to pray about that. During this time, I felt someone grab my hand and walk with me, but, when I looked, no one was there. I know that the Lord was with me.” – Jackson Ball (High School)

  • “El Salvador was one of the best experiences of my life. There were so many highlights on the trip, from dancing for the kids to experiencing impossible miracles. But I think the most amazing part of the whole trip was the Prayer Fortress. I never felt the presence of God as strongly as I did there. I witnessed so many miracles just from a couple hours of praying. I will never forget the experience.” – Landon Piette (High School)

  • “I was always being challenged in my faith and also experienced the joy that comes from being a Christian. My friendships grew a lot during the trip, and I made some new very good friendships too. Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to pray over many people, and we were able to see physical and mental healings through the Holy Spirit! It was one of the most powerful, eye-opening and fun missions trips I could ever imagine!” – Ben Arva (High School)

  • “Before I went to El Salvador, I had a lot of fears. I can’t really describe how deep those fears went, but ultimately, they were holding me back from the calling the Lord has over my life. When I was in El Salvador, it just really opened my eyes to how far I was willing to go for the Lord. I was doing things I had always been so afraid to do, and I was just filled with the Lord’s joy instead of fear! In doing those things, it finally gave me the confidence to accept the calling I had been running away from for so long. God has called me into missions! He has called me to spread His Word and to show His love to everyone! I can’t wait to see how God will use me and the others from the trip!” – Hadassah Marzano (College Age)

Partners with a Purpose

Every year, CLA partners with nearly 200 missionaries and missionary initiatives. In 2024, missionaries Brett and Rebekah Zeiler, with their five children, were added to that list.

God placed a burden in their hearts, and, in 2019, they made tremendous sacrifices so that they could go serve the unreached people in the Buddhist world of Cambodia. They have worked hard to learn the language and build relationships through serving the church and local community.

Currently home in the U.S. to itinerate, they hope to raise the necessary funds for their next term quickly. This will allow them to return to open a Community Center to teach English classes, healthcare seminars and agricultural teachings. This will in turn serve as a platform for sharing the Good News.
