Mission 10 Update

September 2021

Mission 10 is CLA’s strategic approach to expand the Kingdom of God and extend our reach so that all can learn about God’s amazing love!

Since Mission 10 was initially launched:
  • 174 people have gone on a missions trip for the first time (commanded to serve)
  • $3,191,398.50 has been given for missions and missionaries in the U.S. and around the world (compelled to give)
  • 13 new short- or long-term missionaries from CLA’s church family have chosen to GO to the missions field (called to go)

Commanded to Serve

In His Own Words
A coworker who has been helping me in my spiritual journey talked to me about going to Jolo, WV. I saw it as a good opportunity to use some of my construction skills and help others. Since it was my first missions trip, I was not sure what to expect, and I was a bit nervous. But, once we got to Jolo last month, that feeling quickly faded.
I feel that this trip impacted me in a couple different ways. It made me come to the realization that we do not have to go far to help people. Another way I felt impacted was when the locals expressed their gratitude for all that we did.
One of the biggest memories I will never forget is when a local retired coal miner took myself and a few others on a tour of the area and even down a coal mine. While it was a good time, I enjoyed speaking with him and learning about the area. Overall, it was a humbling experience that I will never forget.
I would absolutely go again and would tell anyone thinking of going to have fun and learn as much as you can. You're going to work hard, but it will be worth it!

In His Own Words
Every time I have gone on a missions trip, the odds financially were not in my favor. I would find myself leaning on the verse that says, “God provides for the birds of the air…so how much more will He provide for you,” and I’d decide to step out in faith and go anyway.
I now realize when I hear the saying, “He equips the called, He doesn’t call the equipped,” that this is not just a spiritual perspective. It also means that when He calls you, He will provide financially as well…so don’t let finances stop you from going on a missions trip!

Compelled to Give

Your gift of giving is touching the lives of many to make sure Jesus is known near and far. July’s Mission 10 offering aided in funding various projects, including the work done in Jolo (McDowell County, WV), helping to transform Rajasthan churches into COVID Relief Centers (to provide a safe place for orphans during the day), and providing various aspects for the El Salvador missions team.
Several examples include purchasing prescription drugs for the medical clinics our team did, as well as purchasing video equipment to expand the media presence and effectiveness of King’s Castle so it can share the message of Jesus to countless families in the Latin American region. There are still so many people who need to know Jesus! Learn more and check out photos from our week in El Salvador!
With your help, CLA supports nearly 200 missionaries with a basic commitment of $25,000 a month. Mission 10 offerings help with this commitment, as well as with unexpected disasters, needs and projects. Thank you for your generosity in giving to our September Mission 10 offering. We will provide more details on what this giving supported in the near future!
“We have never been to your church, but you came to us and have helped us so many times with monthly support, special offerings and sending people from your church to serve. Thousands of children have come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, which produced a ripple effect of generations transformed for eternity. Blessings!”
– Don & Terri Triplett, King’s Castle

Called to Go

When you take the time to listen to God’s voice, you will be blessed by what you hear. Tom and Brooke have had a heart to reach people for Jesus in Northern Ireland for many years. So when they finally heard God say “go” in 2018, they moved quickly!
Their ministry started with a church plant and has continued to grow and change as they’ve listened to the Lord. Although they continue to work toward planting churches, new ministries are developing. For example, Party Create! was established in 2020 and provides a platform for reaching children through school workshops, assemblies and YouTube.
Recently, they have partnered with another ministry to provide videos as part of the digital care packages for at-risk children. In early 2021, they agreed to be the Missionary Kids Pastors in Northern Europe. This role of personally connecting with, caring for and pastoring approximately 30 children (birth-college age) is in addition to their other responsibilities.
Tom and Brooke have been busy stateside this summer sharing updates with partnering churches, visiting their family, and even enjoying a little down time before they head back to Northern Ireland in October. We were thrilled to have them visit CLA to provide a brief update on Sunday, September 26, during both morning services!
“We're building the local church here in Ireland because of you.” – Tom & Brooke Harshberger

Reaching Our Community

Thanks to everyone who served at and attended the  Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Celebration for AJB Drug and Alcohol Mentoring  in Harrisburg on Saturday, September 11. Attendees enjoyed a special 9/11 commemoration with special music, remarks by city officials and special guests, great food and kids’ activities. It was awesome to see individuals from various organizations coming together to celebrate the impact that AJB is having in the community.
AJB is a non-profit program that offers no-fee education and mentoring for addiction and HIV/AIDS prevention to help individuals in their mode of sobriety become empowered, rebuild and break free. CLA previously played a significant role in restoring AJB’s building (this was our Project Restore local missions project from several years ago).  We helped to completely restore an old storage building into AJB’s current modern meeting facility.

What a day! Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday, September 18, for Greenlight Operation’s 5th Annual Art Festival at CLA! Whether you were an artist, volunteer or attendee, the organization is so grateful for your support. Greenlight Operation raised almost $7,000 through artist sales, sponsorships and donations!

Thank you for your commitment to the Restoration Home Project and raising awareness about human trafficking. Each day, we are getting one step closer to making this home a reality! Learn more about Greenlight Operation online.
